Does Dino-Lite imaging software use cloud computing? Can network features be disabled?

Dino-Lite imaging software — including DinoCapture 2.0 and DinoCapture 3.0 — does not use cloud computing. All image data stays local on your device. However, the software does include a few optional network functions, outlined below:

  1. Automatic Software Updates — When run as an administrator, the software may contact Dino-Lite HQ’s update server to check for and install updates. This behavior can be disabled within the software settings (the exact steps vary depending on which version you are using).
  2. IP Camera / Remote Live View (DinoCapture 2.0) — DinoCapture 2.0 includes an “IP Camera” mode that streams the live microscope view over your local network, accessible via a local IP address and port. This is an opt-in feature and is only active when manually enabled.
  3. Wireless Device Detection on Startup (DinoCapture 2.0 & 3.0) — On launch, both DinoCapture 2.0 and 3.0 scan the local network for wirelessly connected Dino-Lite devices at http://10.10.10.254:8080. If you do not use wireless connectivity, this check can be disabled by editing the software’s initialization file.
  4. Email a Picture — The software includes a shortcut to send a captured image through your device’s default email application. No data is sent automatically — this is always manually triggered by the user.
