Legacy models and Windows 11

At Dino-Lite, we are proud of our durable hardware, which continues to perform year after year. Several years ago, we updated our design to make Dino-Lite microscopes and Dino-Eye eyepieces plug-and-play. This meant that users would not have to install our custom drivers in order to operate their Dino-Lite.

The plug-and-play design of our modern models also helps with compatibility and ease of use with modern operating systems. Since the release of macOS El Capitan in late 2015 it has not been possible to install the legacy drivers required to operate our older models on Mac. Now, with Windows 11 in 2023 security design is making it increasingly difficult and risky to install our legacy Dino-Lite drivers on Windows.

For Windows 8, 10, and some versions of 11 this article will suffice:
How do I use an older Dino-Lite with Windows 8, 10 or 11?

However, as Windows 11 receives more updates, users may be required to disable additional security features in order to get their legacy Dino-Lite products working. We do not recommend disabling these security features. Here are two that we know of:

  • Disabling core isolation
  • Disabling memory integrity
  • Disabling secure boot in your BIOS

We highly recommend replacing your older Dino-Lite with an updated model. Any new unit shipping today will be plug-and-play. To help identify which models are legacy and which are modern, legacy models that require a custom driver have only three numerical digits in their part number. For example: AM413ZT. The modern version of that model is the AM4113ZT.
